2th biennale mail art

A blast from the past!

The 2nd Biennale of Mail Art was held in 1981 in São Paulo, Brazil. It was organized by the Brazilian artist and mail artist, Luís Seneca, who is considered one of the pioneers of mail art in Brazil.

The biennale was a major event in the mail art movement, which was a global network of artists who exchanged artworks through the postal system. The movement was characterized by its emphasis on the democratization of art, the rejection of traditional art institutions, and the use of unconventional materials and techniques.

The 2nd Biennale of Mail Art featured works by over 1,000 artists from more than 30 countries, including some of the most prominent mail artists of the time, such as Ray Johnson, Anna Banana, and Guglielmo Achille Cavellini.

The biennale was a celebration of the creativity and diversity of the mail art movement, and it helped to establish São Paulo as a hub for mail art activity in the 1980s. Today, the biennale is still remembered as a significant event in the history of mail art, and its legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists and mail artists.
