Aberdare depo royal mail

A blast from the past!

The Aberdare Depot, also known as the Aberdare Delivery Office, was a Royal Mail sorting office and delivery depot located in Aberdare, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. The depot was opened in the early 20th century and played a significant role in the postal services of the region.

The depot was responsible for sorting and delivering mail to the surrounding areas, including Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, and the surrounding valleys. It was a major hub for the Royal Mail in the region, employing many people and handling a significant volume of mail.

Unfortunately, the Aberdare Depot was closed by Royal Mail in 2012 as part of a nationwide restructuring program aimed at reducing costs and improving efficiency. The closure resulted in the loss of jobs and a significant impact on the local community.

Although the depot is no longer in operation, it remains an important part of the history and heritage of Aberdare and the surrounding area.
