Adding gmail to mac mail doesnt process selections

A frustrating issue!

When you add a Gmail account to Mac Mail, it's not uncommon to encounter issues with processing selections. Here are some potential solutions to help you resolve this problem:

  1. Check your Gmail account settings:
    • Ensure that your Gmail account is set up correctly in Mac Mail. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts, select your Gmail account, and verify that the account settings are correct.
    • Make sure that the "Use SSL" option is enabled, as Gmail requires SSL encryption for IMAP connections.
  2. Enable IMAP:
    • In your Gmail account settings, go to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
    • Ensure that the "Enable IMAP" option is enabled.
    • Save the changes.
  3. Update your Mac Mail settings:
    • Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts, select your Gmail account, and click on the "Advanced" tab.
    • Ensure that the "Use IMAP" option is enabled.
    • Set the "Incoming Mail Server" to "imap.gmail.com" and the "Outgoing Mail Server" to "smtp.gmail.com".
    • Set the "Port" for IMAP to 993 and for SMTP to 587.
  4. Check for duplicate accounts:
    • If you have multiple Gmail accounts set up in Mac Mail, try removing the duplicate account and re-adding it.
  5. Reset your Mac Mail account:
    • Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts, select your Gmail account, and click on the "Reset" button.
    • This will reset your account settings to their default values.
  6. Try a different Gmail account:
    • If you have multiple Gmail accounts, try adding a different account to Mac Mail to see if the issue persists.
  7. Check for conflicts with other email clients:
    • If you're using other email clients, such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, try closing them before using Mac Mail.
  8. Update your Mac Mail software:
    • Ensure that you're running the latest version of Mac Mail. You can check for updates in the App Store.
  9. Reset your Mac Mail preferences:
    • Go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and delete the file.
    • Restart Mac Mail to reset the preferences.
