Adjust mail ssl scanning avast new interface

A very specific question!

To adjust the SSL scanning settings in Avast's new interface, follow these steps:

  1. Open Avast Antivirus and navigate to the "Protection" tab.
  2. Click on "Settings" (represented by a gear icon) next to "Mail Shield".
  3. In the "Mail Shield Settings" window, scroll down to the "SSL Scanning" section.
  4. You can adjust the following settings:
    • "Scan SSL/TLS connections": Enable or disable SSL scanning for incoming and outgoing emails.
    • "Scan SSL/TLS connections for malware": Enable or disable scanning of SSL/TLS connections for malware.
    • "Scan SSL/TLS connections for viruses": Enable or disable scanning of SSL/TLS connections for viruses.
    • "Scan SSL/TLS connections for spyware": Enable or disable scanning of SSL/TLS connections for spyware.
  5. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Alternatively, you can also adjust the SSL scanning settings through the Avast Antivirus settings file (avast_settings.ini). To do this:

  1. Open the Avast Antivirus settings file in a text editor (e.g., Notepad).
  2. Search for the following lines and adjust the values as needed:
    [MailShield]
    ScanSSL=1 (enable) or 0 (disable)
    ScanSSLForMalware=1 (enable) or 0 (disable)
    ScanSSLForViruses=1 (enable) or 0 (disable)
    ScanSSLForSpyware=1 (enable) or 0 (disable)
  3. Save the changes to the settings file.

Note: The Avast Antivirus settings file is usually located in the following directory:

C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\settings.ini

On Linux, the file is usually located in:

~/.avast/settings.ini

On macOS, the file is usually located in:

~/Library/Application Support/Avast/settings.ini

Please note that adjusting these settings may affect the performance of your email client or the security of your email communications. It's recommended to consult the Avast Antivirus documentation or contact their support team if you're unsure about the implications of these changes.
