Adoc inmate mail
ADOC (Alabama Department of Corrections) inmate mail policies and procedures are in place to ensure the safety and security of both the inmates and the staff. Here are some guidelines to help you send mail to an inmate in an ADOC facility:
General Guidelines
- All incoming mail must be addressed to the inmate's name and ADOC facility number.
- Mail must be sent through the United States Postal Service (USPS) or a private carrier (e.g., UPS, FedEx).
- Mail must be in a sealed envelope or package.
- No more than 10 pages of written correspondence or 10 photographs can be sent at one time.
- No obscene, threatening, or harassing material is allowed.
What is Allowed
- Letters
- Postcards
- Photographs (no more than 10 at one time)
- Books (new and used, but not more than 3 at one time)
- Magazines
- Newspapers
- Greeting cards
- Stationery
What is Not Allowed
- Obscene or sexually explicit material
- Threatening or harassing material
- Contraband (e.g., weapons, drugs, cell phones)
- Cash or money orders (inmates cannot receive cash or money orders)
- Any item that could be used as a weapon or to facilitate escape
- Any item that could compromise the security of the facility
Special Considerations
- Legal documents and court papers must be sent directly to the inmate's attorney or the court.
- Medical or mental health information must be sent to the inmate's medical provider or counselor.
- Inmates with special needs or disabilities may have additional mail restrictions or requirements.
How to Send Mail
- Address the envelope or package to the inmate's name and ADOC facility number.
- Use the inmate's name and ADOC facility number as the return address.
- Mail the envelope or package to the ADOC facility where the inmate is housed.
- Make sure to include your return address on the envelope or package.
Important Notes
- ADOC reserves the right to inspect and censor all incoming mail.
- Inmates may not receive mail that is deemed to be a threat to their safety or the security of the facility.
- Inmates may not receive mail that is deemed to be obscene or harassing.
It's always a good idea to check with the ADOC facility or the inmate's counselor to confirm their specific mail policies and procedures before sending mail.
