All mail in ballot states
As of the 2020 presidential election, there are 14 states that conduct all-mail ballot elections, where all voters are automatically sent a ballot in the mail and can return it by mail or in person. These states are:
- Alaska
- Colorado
- Hawaii
- Oregon
- Washington
- Utah
- California
- Arizona
- Montana
- Nevada
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- Vermont
- Wyoming
In these states, voters do not need to request an absentee ballot or provide a reason for voting by mail. Instead, all registered voters are automatically sent a ballot in the mail, and can return it by mail or in person to a designated location.
It's worth noting that while these states conduct all-mail ballot elections, they may still have some in-person voting options available, such as early voting or Election Day voting at designated locations. Additionally, some states may have specific rules or restrictions around voting by mail, such as requiring a witness signature or notarization on the ballot.
