Aol mail goggles

A blast from the past!

AOL Mail Goggles was a feature introduced by America Online (AOL) in 2009 to help prevent accidental sending of emails. It was designed to give users a chance to reconsider sending an email before it was sent, especially in situations where they might be typing quickly or under the influence of a certain substance (ahem, like coffee or, you know, something else).

Here's how it worked:

  1. When you composed an email, you could enable Mail Goggles by checking a box that said "I'm not drunk" (or something similar).
  2. If you tried to send the email, you would be prompted to answer a series of math questions to prove you were sober enough to send the email.
  3. If you answered the questions correctly, the email would be sent. If you failed to answer correctly, the email would be saved as a draft and you would be prompted to try again later.

The idea behind Mail Goggles was to prevent users from sending embarrassing or regrettable emails, especially in situations where they might be in a hurry or not fully in control of their actions. While it was a humorous feature, it also served as a reminder to be mindful of our online behavior and to take a moment to think before hitting the "send" button.

Unfortunately, AOL Mail Goggles is no longer available, as AOL has largely phased out its email service in favor of other platforms like Yahoo! Mail and Outlook.com. However, the concept of Mail Goggles has lived on in the form of other email features and apps that aim to help users avoid sending regrettable emails.
