Aol mail with yubikey

A blast from the past! AOL Mail is still around, and you can use a YubiKey to add an extra layer of security to your account. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you set it up:

Prerequisites:

  1. You have an AOL Mail account.
  2. You have a YubiKey (any model that supports OATH-HOTP or U2F).
  3. You have a computer or device with a web browser.

Step 1: Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in AOL Mail

  1. Log in to your AOL Mail account.
  2. Click on the gear icon () in the top right corner and select "Account Settings."
  3. Scroll down to the "Security" section and click on "Two-Factor Authentication."
  4. Click on "Enable Two-Factor Authentication."
  5. Follow the prompts to set up your 2FA method. You can choose from SMS, Authenticator app, or U2F (YubiKey).

Step 2: Set up your YubiKey as a U2F device

  1. Insert your YubiKey into your computer's USB port.
  2. Go to the YubiKey website (www.yubico.com) and click on "Get Started."
  3. Follow the instructions to set up your YubiKey as a U2F device. You'll need to create a YubiKey account and register your device.
  4. Once set up, you'll receive a verification code. Enter this code to complete the registration process.

Step 3: Configure AOL Mail to use your YubiKey

  1. Go back to your AOL Mail account settings (Step 1).
  2. In the "Two-Factor Authentication" section, click on "U2F (YubiKey)" as your 2FA method.
  3. Enter your YubiKey's serial number (found on the YubiKey packaging or in the YubiKey app).
  4. Click "Save Changes."

Step 4: Test your YubiKey setup

  1. Log out of your AOL Mail account.
  2. Try to log back in. You should be prompted to insert your YubiKey and press the button to authenticate.
  3. If everything is set up correctly, you should be logged in to your AOL Mail account.

That's it! You've successfully set up your YubiKey with AOL Mail. From now on, you'll need to insert your YubiKey and press the button to authenticate every time you log in to your AOL Mail account.
