App specific password for osx sierra mail

A very specific question!

In macOS Sierra, you can generate an App-Specific Password for your email account to use with the Mail app. Here's how:

Step 1: Enable App-Specific Passwords

  1. Go to System Preferences > Internet Accounts.
  2. Select your email account (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, etc.).
  3. Click on the "Account" button.
  4. Click on "Security" and then toggle the switch next to "App-Specific Passwords" to the "On" position.

Step 2: Generate an App-Specific Password

  1. Go back to the "Account" page.
  2. Click on the "Generate Password" button.
  3. Choose a name for the password (e.g., "Mail App").
  4. Click "Generate" to generate a new password.

Step 3: Use the App-Specific Password in Mail

  1. Open the Mail app.
  2. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts.
  3. Select your email account.
  4. Click on the "Password" button.
  5. Enter the App-Specific Password you generated earlier.

That's it! Your Mail app should now use the App-Specific Password to access your email account.

Note: You can also use the same App-Specific Password for other apps that require access to your email account, such as Calendar or Contacts.
