Apple mail app won't let me add google

Frustrating!

There could be a few reasons why you're having trouble adding your Google account to the Apple Mail app. Here are some potential solutions to help you resolve the issue:

  1. Check your Google account settings: Ensure that your Google account is set up correctly and that you're using the correct login credentials. Try signing in to your Google account on a web browser to verify that your credentials are correct.
  2. Enable IMAP or POP3: Apple Mail uses IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) or POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) to connect to your email account. Make sure that IMAP or POP3 is enabled for your Google account. You can do this by following these steps:
    • Go to your Google Account settings.
    • Click on "Security" or "Account permissions".
    • Scroll down to the "Less secure app access" section.
    • Enable "Allow less secure apps: YES" (Note: This may compromise your account security, so use with caution).
  3. Check your Apple Mail settings: Ensure that your Apple Mail app is configured correctly. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and make sure that your Google account is selected as the account type. You may need to enter your Google account credentials again.
  4. Try resetting your Apple Mail app: Sometimes, resetting the Apple Mail app can resolve connectivity issues. To do this, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and tap on "Reset" next to your Google account.
  5. Check for conflicts with other accounts: If you have multiple email accounts set up in Apple Mail, try removing other accounts and then re-adding your Google account. This may help resolve any conflicts.
  6. Update your Apple Mail app: Ensure that your Apple Mail app is up to date. Go to the App Store, search for "Mail", and update the app if necessary.
  7. Try using a different email client: If none of the above solutions work, you can try using a different email client, such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, to see if you can connect to your Google account successfully.

If none of these solutions work, you may want to reach out to Apple Support or Google Support for further assistance.
