Apple mail can't add folder

Frustrating!

If you're unable to add a new folder in Apple Mail, here are some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue:

  1. Check if the folder already exists: Sometimes, the folder might already exist, but you might not be able to see it. Try searching for the folder name in the Mail app's search bar (⌘ + Shift + F) to see if it appears.
  2. Check your account settings: Ensure that your email account is set up correctly and that you have the necessary permissions to create new folders. Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts > [Your Account] > Advanced > IMAP Path Prefix. Make sure the prefix is set correctly.
  3. Try creating a new folder in a different location: Instead of creating a new folder in the Inbox or other default folders, try creating a new folder in a different location, such as the "On My Mac" or "Other" folder.
  4. Check for any conflicts with existing folders: If you have a folder with the same name already existing, you might not be able to create a new one. Try renaming the existing folder or deleting it to create a new one.
  5. Restart the Mail app: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve the issue. Quit the Mail app, then relaunch it.
  6. Check for any software conflicts: If you're using any third-party email clients or apps, try closing them and see if the issue persists.
  7. Reset the Mail app: If none of the above steps work, try resetting the Mail app. Go to System Preferences > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Reset, and then select "Reset Mailbox" to reset the Mail app's settings.
  8. Check for any macOS issues: If none of the above steps work, it's possible that there's an issue with your macOS installation. Try restarting your Mac or checking for any software updates.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you can try reaching out to Apple Support or a professional for further assistance.
