Apple mail cannot delete email

Frustrating!

If you're unable to delete an email in Apple Mail, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Check if the email is in a folder: Make sure the email is not in a folder that's set to "On My Mac" or "Inbox" (which can prevent deletion). Try moving the email to the "Trash" folder and then deleting it.
  2. Check for any filters or rules: Apple Mail may have a filter or rule set up that's preventing the email from being deleted. Go to Mail > Preferences > Rules and check if there are any rules that might be causing the issue.
  3. Try deleting from the Trash folder: Sometimes, emails can get stuck in the Trash folder. Try deleting the email from the Trash folder instead of the original folder it was in.
  4. Check for any conflicts with other apps: If you're using other email clients or apps that sync with your Apple Mail account, they might be preventing the deletion. Try closing those apps or disabling their syncing temporarily.
  5. Reset Apple Mail: Try resetting Apple Mail by going to Mail > Preferences > Accounts, selecting the account that's causing the issue, and clicking "Reset". Then, restart Apple Mail.
  6. Check for any corrupted email: If the email is corrupted, it might not be deletable. Try moving the email to the Trash folder and then deleting it. If that doesn't work, try deleting the email from the original folder and then re-downloading it from the server.
  7. Check your account settings: Make sure your account settings are correct and that you're not experiencing any issues with your email provider. Try checking your email provider's website or contacting their support team for assistance.
  8. Try deleting from the command line: If none of the above steps work, you can try deleting the email from the command line using the mbsync command. This will require some technical expertise, so be careful!

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to consider seeking assistance from Apple Support or a professional IT expert.
