Apple mail cannot send message using the server gmail

A common issue!

Apple Mail can't send messages using the Gmail server by default because Gmail uses OAuth 2.0 for authentication, which is a more secure way of authenticating with Google services. Apple Mail doesn't support OAuth 2.0 out of the box, so you need to configure it to use IMAP and SMTP with your Gmail account.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you set up Apple Mail to send messages using the Gmail server:

Step 1: Enable IMAP and SMTP in your Gmail account

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select "See all settings."
  3. Go to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
  4. Enable IMAP and SMTP.
  5. Save your changes.

Step 2: Configure Apple Mail

  1. Open Apple Mail on your Mac.
  2. Go to "Mail" > "Preferences" > "Accounts."
  3. Click on the "+" button to add a new account.
  4. Select "Other Mail Account" and click "Continue."
  5. Enter your name, email address, and password.
  6. Select "IMAP" as the account type.
  7. Enter the following settings:
    • Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
    • Port: 993 (IMAP) and 587 (SMTP)
    • Authentication: Password
  8. Click "Create" to save your changes.

Step 3: Configure the SMTP server

  1. Go back to the "Accounts" preferences.
  2. Select your Gmail account and click on the "Edit" button.
  3. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
  4. Under "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)," select "Use Authentication" and enter your Gmail password.
  5. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Step 4: Test your setup

  1. Try sending an email using Apple Mail.
  2. If you encounter any issues, check your Gmail account settings to ensure that IMAP and SMTP are enabled.
  3. Also, make sure that your Apple Mail account is set up correctly, including the correct server settings and authentication details.

By following these steps, you should be able to set up Apple Mail to send messages using the Gmail server. If you're still having issues, feel free to provide more details, and I'll do my best to help you troubleshoot the problem!
