Apple mail folder location
The location of Apple Mail folders on a Mac depends on the version of macOS you're using. Here are the locations for different versions:
macOS High Sierra (10.13) and later:
- The default location for Apple Mail folders is
~/Library/Mail/V2/
- You can also find them in the
~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
folder, which contains the index files for your mailboxes.
macOS Sierra (10.12) and earlier:
- The default location for Apple Mail folders is
~/Library/Mail/Local/V2/
- You can also find them in the
~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
folder, which contains the index files for your mailboxes.
Note: The ~/
symbol represents your user directory, which is usually Users/YourUsername
.
To access these folders, you can use the Finder or the Terminal app:
- Open the Finder and navigate to the
~/Library
folder. - Look for the
Mail
folder and open it. - Inside the
Mail
folder, you'll find theV2
folder (orLocal/V2
on older versions). - You can also use the Terminal app to navigate to these folders using the following commands:
cd ~/Library/Mail/V2/
(or~/Library/Mail/Local/V2/
on older versions)cd ~/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Keep in mind that these folders are hidden by default, so you may need to use the Command + Shift +.
keyboard shortcut to show hidden files and folders in the Finder.
