Apple mail port settings
To set up Apple Mail to use a specific port for sending and receiving email, you can follow these steps:
For macOS High Sierra (10.13) and later:
- Open Apple Mail.
- Click on "Mail" in the top menu bar and select "Preferences".
- Click on the "Accounts" tab.
- Select the email account you want to configure from the list on the left.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab.
- Under "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)", click on the "Edit" button next to "SMTP Server".
- In the "SMTP Server" window, click on the "Port" dropdown menu and select the desired port number (e.g. 587, 25, etc.).
- Click "OK" to save the changes.
For macOS Sierra (10.12) and earlier:
- Open Apple Mail.
- Click on "Mail" in the top menu bar and select "Preferences".
- Click on the "Accounts" tab.
- Select the email account you want to configure from the list on the left.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab.
- Under "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)", click on the "Edit" button next to "SMTP Server".
- In the "SMTP Server" window, click on the "Port" dropdown menu and select the desired port number (e.g. 587, 25, etc.).
- Click "OK" to save the changes.
For iOS and iPadOS:
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
- Tap on the email account you want to configure.
- Tap on "SMTP".
- Tap on the "Server" dropdown menu and select the desired port number (e.g. 587, 25, etc.).
- Tap "Back" to save the changes.
Note: The default port numbers for SMTP are:
- 25 (unencrypted)
- 587 (encrypted, recommended)
- 465 (encrypted, but not recommended)
Make sure to check with your email provider for the recommended port number and any specific settings required for their service.
