Apple mail signature not default

The frustration of not having your signature set as the default in Apple Mail!

To set a signature as the default in Apple Mail on a Mac:

  1. Open Apple Mail and go to Mail > Preferences.
  2. Click on the Composing tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Signature section.
  4. Select the signature you want to use as the default from the Signature dropdown menu.
  5. Check the box next to Use default signature.
  6. Click OK to save your changes.

Alternatively, you can also set a default signature by going to Mail > Preferences > General, and then selecting the signature from the Default signature dropdown menu.

If you're using a newer version of macOS, you might need to follow these steps:

  1. Open Apple Mail and go to Mail > Preferences.
  2. Click on the General tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Signature section.
  4. Select the signature you want to use as the default from the Default signature dropdown menu.
  5. Click OK to save your changes.

Make sure to restart Apple Mail or log out and log back in to ensure the changes take effect.

If you're still having trouble, you can try resetting Apple Mail's preferences by going to ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Preferences.plist and deleting the file. This will reset all of your Apple Mail preferences, including your signature.
