Apple mail undo send delay

The frustration of accidentally sending an email and wanting to undo it!

In Apple Mail, there is a feature called "Undo Send" that allows you to recall an email within a short period of time after sending it. Here's how to enable and use it:

Enable Undo Send:

  1. Open Apple Mail on your Mac.
  2. Go to Mail > Preferences > General.
  3. Check the box next to "Enable Undo Send".
  4. Choose a delay time from the dropdown menu (e.g., 10 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, etc.).

Use Undo Send:

  1. Compose and send an email as you normally would.
  2. Immediately after sending the email, click on the "Edit" menu and select "Undo Send" (or use the keyboard shortcut Command + Z).
  3. If the email was sent within the delay time you set, you'll see a confirmation message saying "Undo Send: [Email Subject]".
  4. Click "Undo" to recall the email.

Note that Undo Send only works if you send an email from within Apple Mail, and it's not available for emails sent from other apps or services. Additionally, the recipient may have already received the email, so it's not a guarantee that the email will be completely recalled.

If you're using a newer version of macOS (High Sierra or later), you can also use the "Undo Send" feature in the Mail app's toolbar. To do this:

  1. Open the Mail app.
  2. Click on the "Compose" button to start a new email.
  3. Type your message and click the "Send" button.
  4. Immediately after sending the email, click on the "Undo Send" button in the toolbar (it looks like a clock with a red "X" through it).
  5. If the email was sent within the delay time, you'll see a confirmation message saying "Undo Send: [Email Subject]".
  6. Click "Undo" to recall the email.
