Auspost redirecting mail
A common issue!
Australia Post offers a redirection service that allows you to redirect your mail to a new address. Here's how it works:
Why redirect your mail?
You might need to redirect your mail if you're:
- Moving to a new home or office
- Changing your name (e.g., due to marriage or divorce)
- Leaving Australia temporarily or permanently
- Closing a business or changing its address
How to redirect your mail with Australia Post
To redirect your mail, you'll need to:
- Gather required documents: You'll need to provide proof of identity and address, such as a driver's license, passport, or utility bill.
- Fill out the redirection form: You can download and complete the Australia Post Mail Redirection Form (PDF) or pick one up from a post office.
- Provide the redirection details: Fill in the new address you want your mail redirected to, as well as the date you want the redirection to start and end.
- Pay the redirection fee: The fee for a standard redirection is currently $55.20 for 12 months, or $11.04 for a 1-month redirection.
- Submit the form: Take the completed form and required documents to a post office or mail center.
Types of mail redirection
Australia Post offers two types of mail redirection:
- Standard Redirection: Redirects mail to a new address for a set period (1 month to 12 months).
- Permanent Redirection: Redirects mail to a new address indefinitely, until you cancel the redirection.
Tips and considerations
- Make sure to update your redirection details with other relevant parties, such as banks, credit card companies, and online services.
- If you're redirecting mail to a PO box, ensure it's a valid PO box address.
- If you're redirecting mail to an international address, you may need to provide additional documentation and pay an international redirection fee.
- Redirection fees are non-refundable, so ensure you've completed the redirection correctly before paying.
