Avast blocking windows live mail

Frustrating!

Avast is a popular antivirus software, and sometimes it can block legitimate programs, including Windows Live Mail. Here are some possible reasons and solutions to help you resolve the issue:

Reasons:

  1. False positive detection: Avast might incorrectly identify Windows Live Mail as a malicious program or a potential threat.
  2. Outdated virus definitions: Avast's virus definitions might not be updated, causing it to flag Windows Live Mail as a threat.
  3. Conflicting software: Other software installed on your system might be conflicting with Windows Live Mail, causing Avast to block it.

Solutions:

  1. Update Avast virus definitions: Ensure that your Avast antivirus software is updated with the latest virus definitions. You can do this by opening Avast, clicking on the "Menu" (three horizontal lines), and selecting "Update" > "Update virus definitions."
  2. Exclude Windows Live Mail from Avast scans: You can add Windows Live Mail to the list of excluded programs in Avast. To do this:
    • Open Avast and go to "Settings" (gear icon).
    • Click on "Exclusions" and then "Add exception."
    • Browse to the location where Windows Live Mail is installed (usually C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail).
    • Select the "Windows Live Mail" folder and click "Add."
  3. Disable Avast's Real-Time Shields: Temporarily disable Avast's Real-Time Shields to see if it resolves the issue. To do this:
    • Open Avast and go to "Settings" (gear icon).
    • Click on "Components" and toggle off the "Real-Time Shields" switch.
    • Restart Windows Live Mail and see if it works.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall Windows Live Mail: If the above steps don't work, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Live Mail.
  5. Contact Avast support: If none of the above solutions work, you can contact Avast support for further assistance. They may be able to help you resolve the issue or provide additional guidance.

Remember to always keep your antivirus software up to date and ensure that it's configured to allow legitimate programs to run without interference.
