Avast change mail shield settings

Avast's Mail Shield is a feature that scans your email for malware and other threats. Here's how to change the settings:

Method 1: Through the Avast UI

  1. Open Avast Antivirus and go to the "Protection" tab.
  2. Click on "Mail Shield" from the left-hand menu.
  3. Click on the "Settings" button next to "Mail Shield".
  4. In the "Mail Shield Settings" window, you can adjust the following settings:
    • Scan incoming emails: Enable or disable scanning of incoming emails.
    • Scan outgoing emails: Enable or disable scanning of outgoing emails.
    • Scan attachments: Enable or disable scanning of email attachments.
    • Scan HTML emails: Enable or disable scanning of HTML emails.
    • Scan email headers: Enable or disable scanning of email headers.
    • Exclude emails from specific senders: Add or remove email addresses or domains from the exclusion list.
    • Exclude emails with specific subjects: Add or remove email subjects from the exclusion list.
  5. Click "OK" to save your changes.

Method 2: Through the Avast settings file

  1. Open the Avast settings file in a text editor (e.g., Notepad).
  2. Locate the following sections and adjust the settings as needed:
    • MailShield:
      • ScanIncoming: Set to 1 to enable scanning of incoming emails, or 0 to disable.
      • ScanOutgoing: Set to 1 to enable scanning of outgoing emails, or 0 to disable.
      • ScanAttachments: Set to 1 to enable scanning of email attachments, or 0 to disable.
      • ScanHtml: Set to 1 to enable scanning of HTML emails, or 0 to disable.
      • ScanHeaders: Set to 1 to enable scanning of email headers, or 0 to disable.
    • ExcludeSenders: Add or remove email addresses or domains from the exclusion list.
    • ExcludeSubjects: Add or remove email subjects from the exclusion list.
  3. Save the changes to the settings file.

Note: The Avast settings file is usually located at C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\settings.ini (Windows) or ~/Library/Application Support/Avast/Settings.ini (Mac).
