The calculator will estimate the average delivery time based on the USPS's delivery standards and the information you provide.
Formula:
The calculator uses the following formula to estimate the average delivery time:
Average Delivery Time = Distance (in miles) / (Mail Type's Average Speed + Day of the Week's Delivery Delay + Time of Day's Delivery Delay)
Mail Type Average Speed:
- First-Class Mail: 2-3 days
- Priority Mail: 1-3 days
- Priority Mail Express: 1 day
Day of the Week Delivery Delay:
- Monday: 0.5 days
- Tuesday: 0.5 days
- Wednesday: 0.5 days
- Thursday: 0.5 days
- Friday: 0.5 days
- Saturday: 0 days (no delay)
- Sunday: 1 day (no delivery)
Time of Day Delivery Delay:
- Morning: 0.25 days
- Afternoon: 0.25 days
- Evening: 0.5 days
Example:
Let's say you want to send a First-Class Mail letter from New York City (NYC) to Los Angeles (LA), which is approximately 2,796 miles away. You send the letter on a Wednesday afternoon.
Calculator Input:
- Distance: 2,796 miles
- Mail Type: First-Class Mail
- Day of the Week: Wednesday
- Time of Day: Afternoon
Calculator Output:
Average Delivery Time = 2,796 miles / (2-3 days + 0.5 days + 0.25 days) ≈ 4.5 days
So, the estimated average delivery time for this letter would be around 4.5 days.
Note:
This calculator is a simplified estimate and actual delivery times may vary due to various factors, such as weather, traffic, and holidays.
