Backup windows live mail and import
Windows Live Mail (WLM) is a popular email client, but it's no longer supported by Microsoft. However, you can still backup and import your WLM data to other email clients or services. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you do so:
Backup Windows Live Mail:
- Export emails: Go to File > Export > Email Messages. Choose the format as "EML" and select the folder you want to export (e.g., Inbox, Sent Items, etc.). You can also export contacts, calendar, and tasks separately.
- Export contacts: Go to File > Export > Contacts. Choose the format as "CSV" or "VCF" and select the contacts you want to export.
- Export calendar: Go to File > Export > Calendar. Choose the format as "iCal" or "CSV" and select the calendar items you want to export.
- Export tasks: Go to File > Export > Tasks. Choose the format as "CSV" and select the tasks you want to export.
Import Windows Live Mail data:
To Outlook:
- Import emails: Open Outlook and go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export. Select "Import from another program or file" and choose "Windows Live Mail" as the file type. Follow the prompts to import your emails.
- Import contacts: Open Outlook and go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export. Select "Import from another program or file" and choose "Windows Live Mail" as the file type. Follow the prompts to import your contacts.
- Import calendar: Open Outlook and go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export. Select "Import from another program or file" and choose "Windows Live Mail" as the file type. Follow the prompts to import your calendar.
To Mozilla Thunderbird:
- Import emails: Open Thunderbird and go to File > Import > Mail. Select "Windows Live Mail" as the file type and follow the prompts to import your emails.
- Import contacts: Open Thunderbird and go to File > Import > Address Book. Select "Windows Live Mail" as the file type and follow the prompts to import your contacts.
To Gmail or other web-based email services:
- Export emails: Use the methods mentioned above to export your WLM emails as EML files.
- Upload to Gmail: Log in to your Gmail account and go to the Inbox. Click on the gear icon > Settings > Accounts and Import > Import mail and contacts. Select "Export data from another program" and choose "Windows Live Mail" as the file type. Follow the prompts to upload your emails.
- Upload to other web-based email services: Check the documentation for your email service provider to see if they have a similar import feature.
Remember to always backup your data regularly to prevent loss in case something goes wrong.
