Bcc on an email meaning
A fundamental concept in email etiquette!
BCC
stands for "Blind Carbon Copy". When you add an email address to the BCC field, the recipient will not see the other email addresses that are also being sent the same message. In other words, the BCC field allows you to send an email to multiple recipients without revealing their email addresses to each other.
Here's how it works:
- You compose an email and add one or more email addresses to the BCC field.
- The email is sent to each recipient, but their email addresses are not visible to each other.
- Each recipient sees only their own email address in the "To" or "From" field, not the other recipients' email addresses.
BCC is often used in situations where you want to send an email to multiple people, but you don't want them to know who else is receiving the same message. For example:
- Sending a newsletter or announcement to a large group of people without revealing their email addresses to each other.
- Sharing a confidential or sensitive message with multiple people without compromising their privacy.
- Sending a mass email to a group of people without wanting them to know who else is receiving the same message.
However, it's worth noting that using BCC excessively or without a legitimate reason can be considered spammy or unethical. It's generally recommended to use BCC sparingly and only when necessary.
