Beeline cable mail
A blast from the past!
Beeline Cable Mail was a pioneering email service that was launched in the early 1990s. It was one of the first commercial email services to offer a graphical user interface (GUI) and a web-based email client.
Here's a brief history:
- Beeline Cable Mail was launched in 1992 by Beeline, a company that was founded by a group of entrepreneurs who had previously worked at CompuServe, one of the first commercial online services.
- The service was initially available to customers of Beeline's cable modem service, which was offered in several cities across the United States.
- Beeline Cable Mail offered a range of features, including email, news, and online storage. It also had a user-friendly interface that made it easy for users to send and receive emails.
- In 1995, Beeline Cable Mail was rebranded as "Beeline Internet" and became a full-fledged internet service provider (ISP). The service continued to offer email, as well as other internet services such as web hosting and online storage.
- In 1999, Beeline Internet was acquired by EarthLink, another popular ISP of the time. EarthLink continued to offer Beeline Internet services, including email, until it was eventually phased out in the early 2000s.
Beeline Cable Mail may be a relic of the past, but it played an important role in the development of the internet and email services as we know them today.
