Bounce emails in mac mail

The frustration of bounced emails!

In Mac Mail, bounced emails are typically marked as "Undeliverable" or "Failed" and are moved to the "Junk" or "Trash" folder. Here's how to identify and manage bounced emails in Mac Mail:

Identifying bounced emails:

  1. Open Mac Mail and go to the "Junk" or "Trash" folder.
  2. Look for emails with a red "X" icon or a "Failed" status. These emails have been bounced back to you by the recipient's email server.

Managing bounced emails:

  1. Delete: You can delete bounced emails by selecting them and pressing the "Delete" key or by right-clicking and selecting "Move to Trash".
  2. Mark as Read: You can mark bounced emails as read by selecting them and pressing the "Mark as Read" button or by right-clicking and selecting "Mark as Read".
  3. Forward: You can forward bounced emails to the sender or another email address by selecting the email and clicking the "Forward" button.
  4. Check the error message: If you want to know why the email was bounced, you can check the error message in the email's headers. To do this, select the email and click on "View" > "Message" > "Headers" (or press Command + Shift + H). Look for the "X-Original-To" or "X-Envelope-To" headers, which may contain information about why the email was bounced.

Common reasons for bounced emails:

  1. Invalid email address: The email address you sent the email to is invalid or does not exist.
  2. Full mailbox: The recipient's mailbox is full, and they cannot receive new emails.
  3. Spam filter: The recipient's email provider has flagged your email as spam and blocked it.
  4. Domain or server issues: There may be issues with the recipient's email server or domain that prevent emails from being delivered.

If you're experiencing frequent bounced emails, it's a good idea to check your email list for invalid addresses and consider using a email validation service to help you clean up your list.
