Can gmail do a mail merge

Gmail does not have a built-in mail merge feature like Microsoft Outlook or other email clients. However, there are a few workarounds to achieve a similar result:

  1. Gmail's Canned Responses: You can use Gmail's Canned Responses feature to create a template with placeholders for dynamic information. This feature allows you to save a response as a template and then insert it into a new email. You can use this feature to create a template with placeholders for names, addresses, and other dynamic information.
  2. Gmail's Add-ons: There are several third-party add-ons available for Gmail that offer mail merge functionality. Some popular options include:
    • Gmail Mail Merge: This add-on allows you to create a mail merge template and send personalized emails to multiple recipients.
    • Merge: This add-on offers a simple and easy-to-use mail merge feature that integrates with Gmail.
    • Gmass: This add-on offers a range of features, including mail merge, email marketing, and automation.
  3. Google Sheets and Gmail: You can use Google Sheets to create a mail merge template and then use Gmail's API to send the emails. This requires some programming knowledge, but it's a powerful solution.
  4. External tools: You can also use external tools like Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice to create a mail merge template and then export it to a CSV file. You can then use Gmail's CSV import feature to send the emails.

To use Gmail's Canned Responses feature, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Gmail and compose a new email.
  2. Type in your message and use placeholders for dynamic information (e.g., [Name], [Address], etc.).
  3. Click on the three vertical dots at the bottom of the compose window and select "Canned responses" > "New canned response".
  4. Name your template and save it.
  5. To use the template, go to the compose window and click on the three vertical dots again. Select "Canned responses" > "Insert canned response".
  6. Choose your template and fill in the dynamic information.

Keep in mind that Gmail's Canned Responses feature is limited to a single template, and you can't use it to send emails to multiple recipients at once. If you need to send emails to a large number of recipients, you may want to consider using one of the add-ons or external tools mentioned above.
