Can not deleter folder in mac mail

Frustrating!

There are a few possible reasons why you can't delete a folder in Mac Mail. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue:

  1. Check if the folder is empty: Make sure the folder you're trying to delete is empty. If it contains any messages, you'll need to move or delete those messages first.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) the folder: Instead of clicking the folder and selecting "Delete" from the menu, try right-clicking (or Control-clicking) the folder and selecting "Delete" from the context menu. This might help you delete the folder.
  3. Check the folder's permissions: Sometimes, the permissions on the folder might be set to prevent deletion. To check the permissions, follow these steps:
    • Select the folder in the Mail sidebar.
    • Go to File > Get Info (or press Command + I).
    • In the "Get Info" window, click on the "Permissions" tab.
    • Check if the "Delete" permission is set to "Read Only" or "No Access" for any user or group. If so, you'll need to adjust the permissions to allow deletion.
  4. Try deleting the folder from the Finder: Sometimes, Mail might be holding onto the folder, preventing you from deleting it. Try deleting the folder from the Finder:
    • Open the Finder and navigate to the folder's location.
    • Select the folder and press the Delete key.
    • Confirm that you want to delete the folder.
  5. Reset the Mail database: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the Mail database:
    • Quit Mail.
    • Go to ~/Library/Mail (or ~/Library/Mail/V6 if you're using macOS High Sierra or later).
    • Delete the Envelope Index and Message Database files.
    • Restart Mail.
  6. Recreate the folder: If all else fails, you can try recreating the folder:
    • Go to Mail > File > New Folder (or press Command + Shift + N).
    • Name the new folder the same as the one you're trying to delete.
    • Move any messages from the original folder to the new folder.

If none of these steps work, you can try searching online for more specific solutions or seeking help from Apple Support or a Mac expert.
