Can receive but cannot send with windows live mail

Frustrating!

If you're unable to send emails but can receive them with Windows Live Mail, there are a few potential causes and solutions to try:

  1. Outgoing mail server settings: Ensure that your outgoing mail server settings are correct. You can check these settings by following these steps:
    • Open Windows Live Mail.
    • Click on "Tools" > "Accounts" > "Properties" > "Servers".
    • Verify that the "Outgoing mail server" (SMTP) is set to the correct server address and port number.
    • Make sure the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" checkbox is selected.
  2. Authentication issues: Windows Live Mail uses a different authentication method than some email providers. Try changing the authentication method:
    • Open Windows Live Mail.
    • Click on "Tools" > "Accounts" > "Properties" > "Servers".
    • Under "Outgoing mail server", select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
  3. Port number issues: Some email providers use non-standard port numbers for outgoing mail. Try changing the port number:
    • Open Windows Live Mail.
    • Click on "Tools" > "Accounts" > "Properties" > "Servers".
    • Under "Outgoing mail server", select the "Advanced" tab.
    • Change the "Outgoing mail server (SMTP)" port number to the recommended port number for your email provider (e.g., 587 for Gmail).
  4. Firewall or antivirus software issues: Firewalls or antivirus software might be blocking the outgoing connection. Try temporarily disabling these programs or configuring them to allow outgoing connections:
    • Check your firewall settings to ensure that Windows Live Mail is allowed to send emails.
    • Disable any antivirus software that might be interfering with the outgoing connection.
  5. Email provider issues: If none of the above solutions work, it's possible that there's an issue with your email provider's servers. Try contacting your email provider's support team to see if they're experiencing any outages or issues.

If none of these solutions work, you may want to consider switching to a different email client or provider.
