Can receive but not send email windows live mail

A frustrating issue!

If you're unable to send emails but can receive them in Windows Live Mail, there are a few potential causes and solutions to try:

  1. Outlook.com account settings: Ensure that your Outlook.com account settings are correct in Windows Live Mail. Go to File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles > [Your Profile Name] > Properties > Servers. Verify that the incoming (IMAP) and outgoing (SMTP) server settings are correct. You can find the correct settings on the Outlook.com website.
  2. SMTP server settings: Check if the SMTP server settings are correct. Go to File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles > [Your Profile Name] > Properties > Servers > Outgoing Server. Make sure the SMTP server is set to smtp.live.com and the port is set to 587 or 25.
  3. Authentication issues: Ensure that your account is set to use authentication when sending emails. Go to File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles > [Your Profile Name] > Properties > Servers > Outgoing Server > Authentication. Select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" or "Use a different username and password" and enter your Outlook.com credentials.
  4. Firewall or antivirus software: Firewalls or antivirus software might be blocking the outgoing email connection. Try temporarily disabling them to see if it resolves the issue.
  5. Windows Live Mail configuration: Try resetting Windows Live Mail's configuration by going to File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles > [Your Profile Name] > Properties > Advanced > Reset.
  6. Outlook.com account issues: If none of the above steps work, it's possible that there's an issue with your Outlook.com account. Try signing in to your Outlook.com account on a web browser to see if you can send emails successfully. If not, contact Microsoft Support for assistance.
  7. Windows Live Mail version: If you're using an older version of Windows Live Mail, it might be outdated and causing issues. Try updating to the latest version or consider switching to a different email client.

If none of these solutions work, you may want to try using a different email client or contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.
