Can windows live mail use tls

Windows Live Mail (WLM) does support Transport Layer Security (TLS) for encrypting email communications. However, the support for TLS in WLM is limited to TLS 1.0, which is an older version of the protocol.

In 2014, Microsoft announced that they would be disabling TLS 1.0 in Outlook.com and other Microsoft services, citing security concerns. This means that WLM, which is a part of the Outlook.com suite, also stopped supporting TLS 1.0.

However, WLM still supports TLS 1.2, which is a more secure version of the protocol. To enable TLS 1.2 in WLM, you'll need to make some configuration changes.

Here's how to enable TLS 1.2 in Windows Live Mail:

  1. Open Windows Live Mail and go to the "Tools" menu.
  2. Click on "Accounts" and select the account you want to configure.
  3. Click on the "Properties" button.
  4. In the "Properties" window, click on the "Advanced" tab.
  5. Under "Security", select "TLS 1.2" from the dropdown menu.
  6. Click "OK" to save the changes.

After making these changes, WLM should use TLS 1.2 to encrypt your email communications. However, keep in mind that not all email providers support TLS 1.2, so you may still encounter issues with some email accounts.

It's also worth noting that WLM is no longer supported by Microsoft, and it's recommended to use a more modern email client like Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.
