Cannot choose signature in mac mail

Frustrating!

If you're unable to choose a signature in Mac Mail, here are some troubleshooting steps to help you resolve the issue:

  1. Check if the signature is enabled: Go to Mail > Preferences > Composing, and make sure the "Signature" checkbox is enabled.
  2. Verify the signature file exists: Check if the signature file (.signature) exists in the following locations:
    • ~/Library/Mail/V2/Sigatures (for macOS High Sierra and later)
    • ~/Library/Mail/Sigatures (for macOS Sierra and earlier)
    • /Library/Mail/Sigatures (for system-wide signature)
  3. Check the signature file format: Make sure the signature file is in plain text format (.txt) and not in HTML format (.html).
  4. Try resetting the Mail preferences: Go to Mail > Preferences > General, and click "Reset" to reset the Mail preferences to their default settings.
  5. Check for conflicts with other email clients: If you're using multiple email clients, try closing them and then try to set a signature in Mac Mail.
  6. Check for corrupted signature file: Try deleting the signature file and then recreate it. You can do this by going to Mail > Preferences > Composing, clicking the "Signature" button, and then clicking "Edit Signature..." to create a new signature.
  7. Check for permissions issues: Make sure that the Mail app has the necessary permissions to write to the signature file location. You can try resetting the permissions by right-clicking (or control-clicking) on the signature file location and selecting "Get Info," then clicking the "Lock" icon and entering your administrator password.
  8. Reinstall Mail: If none of the above steps work, you can try reinstalling Mail by going to the App Store, searching for "Mail," and clicking "Install" to reinstall the app.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may want to try resetting your Mac's System Management Controller (SMC) or restarting your Mac in Safe Mode to see if that resolves the problem.
