Chrome default mail client

By default, Google Chrome uses the Gmail client as its default mail client. However, you can change the default mail client to another email client, such as Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird, by following these steps:

Method 1: Change default mail client in Chrome settings

  1. Open Google Chrome and click on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the browser window.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Advanced section.
  4. Click on System.
  5. Under Default browser, click on Make default.
  6. In the Default email client dropdown menu, select the email client you want to use as the default (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc.).
  7. Click Save.

Method 2: Change default mail client in Windows settings

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select System.
  2. Click on Default apps.
  3. Click on Email.
  4. Select the email client you want to use as the default from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click Save.

Method 3: Change default mail client in macOS settings

  1. Click on the Apple menu and select System Preferences.
  2. Click on General.
  3. Click on Default email reader.
  4. Select the email client you want to use as the default from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click OK.

After changing the default mail client, you can still use Gmail as your default email client in Chrome by following these steps:

  1. Open Google Chrome and click on the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the browser window.
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Advanced section.
  4. Click on Content settings.
  5. Under Email, click on Manage exceptions.
  6. Add mail.google.com to the list of allowed sites.
  7. Click OK.

Now, when you click on an email link in Chrome, it will open in your default email client instead of Gmail.
