Compuserve was one of the earliest online services, founded in 1969 by Jim Clark and Jeff Wilkins. It was known for its email service, which was one of the first commercial email providers. In the early days, Compuserve's email service was called "Compuserve Mail Center".
Compuserve Mail Center was a pioneering service that allowed users to send and receive email using a dial-up modem. Users could access their email accounts using a terminal emulator or a dedicated email client. The service was popular in the 1980s and 1990s, especially among business users and professionals.
In 1998, Compuserve launched Compuserve 2000, a new version of its email service that offered a range of features, including:

Mail, as well as the increasing popularity of web-based email services like Gmail, eventually led to a decline in Compuserve's email user base.
