The cost of mailing a letter in the United States depends on the weight and size of the letter, as well as the destination. Here are the current rates for mailing a letter in the United States:
First-Class Mail
- Letters weighing up to 1 ounce: $0.55
- Letters weighing 1 ounce to 2 ounces: $0.70
- Letters weighing 2 ounces to 3 ounces: $0.85
- Letters weighing 3 ounces to 3.5 ounces: $1.00
Priority Mail
- Small flat rate envelope (up to 13.5 inches x 12 inches x 3.5 inches): $7.50
- Medium flat rate envelope (up to 15 inches x 12 inches x 3.5 inches): $13.75
- Large flat rate envelope (up to 17 inches x 13 inches x 3.5 inches): $19.75
International Mail
- First-Class Mail International: $1.20 (up to 1 ounce), $1.35 (1-2 ounces), $1.50 (2-3 ounces), etc.
- Priority Mail International: $24.95 (up to 1 pound), $34.95 (1-2 pounds), $44.95 (2-3 pounds), etc.
Additional Fees
- Postage due: $0.05 per ounce (up to $5.00)
- Insurance: $2.75 (up to $5,000 coverage), $4.75 (up to $10,000 coverage), etc.
- Signature confirmation: $2.75 (up to $5,000 coverage), $4.75 (up to $10,000 coverage), etc.
