Did cra stop mailing tax assessments

A timely question!

According to the California State Board of Equalization (BOE), the California Revenue and Taxation Code (RTC) requires the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) to mail annual property tax bills to property owners by a specific deadline.

Typically, the CDTFA sends out property tax bills (also known as "property tax assessments") in October or November of each year for the upcoming fiscal year. For example, the 2022-2023 property tax bills were mailed in October 2022.

However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CDTFA has made some changes to its mailing process. In 2020, the agency announced that it would no longer mail paper property tax bills to property owners. Instead, property owners would need to access their property tax information online through the CDTFA's website or through their online account.

This change was made to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and provide more convenient access to property tax information. Property owners can still opt to receive a paper copy of their property tax bill by contacting the CDTFA or by signing up for paper billing through their online account.

So, to answer your question, the CDTFA did stop mailing paper property tax bills to property owners, but property owners can still access their property tax information online or opt to receive a paper copy if they prefer.
