Do the brackets automatically show in mailing list

In most email clients and mailing list software, the brackets [] are not automatically displayed in the recipient's email. Instead, they are used internally by the email client or mailing list software to identify the list name, list address, and other metadata.

When you send an email to a mailing list, the email client or mailing list software typically replaces the brackets with the actual list name and address. For example, if you have a mailing list called "my_list" and you send an email to [email protected], the recipient will receive the email as if it were sent to [email protected], not my_list[]@example.com.

However, there are some exceptions where the brackets might be visible to the recipient:

  1. Plain text emails: If you send a plain text email (i.e., not HTML-formatted), the brackets might be visible to the recipient, as plain text emails do not support formatting or substitution.
  2. Some email clients: Some email clients, such as Microsoft Outlook, might display the brackets if they are not properly configured to handle mailing list subscriptions.
  3. Mailing list software: Some mailing list software, such as Mailman or Sympa, might display the brackets in the "To" field of the email, especially if you are using a custom list name or address.

In general, it's best to assume that the brackets will not be visible to the recipient, and that the email will be delivered to the intended list address.
