Does backing up save all apple mail

When you back up your Apple device, such as an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, it does not automatically save all of your Apple Mail data. Here's what's included and what's not:

What's backed up:

  1. Mail account settings: Your email account settings, including your username, password, and server settings, are backed up.
  2. Mail folders and labels: Your email folders and labels (e.g., Inbox, Sent, Drafts) are backed up.
  3. Email messages: A subset of your email messages are backed up, including:
    • The last 30 days of email messages for each account.
    • A limited number of messages (typically around 1,000) from each account.

What's not backed up:

  1. All email messages: As mentioned earlier, only a subset of your email messages are backed up. If you have a large number of emails, some may not be included in the backup.
  2. Email attachments: Email attachments are not backed up.
  3. Custom email filters: Custom email filters you've set up in Apple Mail are not backed up.
  4. Email search history: Your email search history is not backed up.

How to back up your Apple Mail data:

To ensure that all your Apple Mail data is backed up, you can use the following methods:

  1. iTunes or iCloud Backup: When you back up your device using iTunes or iCloud, you can select the "Mail" option to include your email data in the backup.
  2. Third-party backup apps: There are several third-party backup apps available that can back up your Apple Mail data, such as Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper!, or Backblaze.
  3. Manual export: You can manually export your email messages from Apple Mail using the "Export" feature. This will allow you to save your email data to a file that can be stored separately.

Remember to regularly back up your Apple Mail data to ensure that your important emails are safe and can be recovered in case something goes wrong.
