Does bt mail use my mobile phone number

According to BT's official website and customer support, BT Mail (formerly known as BT Yahoo! Mail) does not use your mobile phone number to send or receive emails.

BT Mail is a web-based email service that uses your email address and password to authenticate and access your account. When you sign up for BT Mail, you create a unique email address and password, which are stored securely on BT's servers.

However, if you have a BT Broadband or BT Mobile account, you may have the option to link your email account to your mobile phone number. This is done for security purposes, such as:

  1. Two-factor authentication (2FA): BT may send a verification code to your mobile phone to confirm your identity when you log in to your email account from a new device or location.
  2. Account recovery: If you forget your password or need to recover your account, BT may use your mobile phone number to send a verification code or reset instructions.

In these cases, BT will only use your mobile phone number to send a one-time verification code or message, and not to access or read your email content.

It's worth noting that BT Mail is a separate service from BT Mobile, and your mobile phone number is not automatically linked to your email account unless you explicitly opt-in to the linking process.

If you have any concerns about your email account security or linking your mobile phone number to BT Mail, I recommend contacting BT's customer support directly for more information and guidance.
