Does first class international mail include insurance

In the United States, First Class International Mail does not include insurance coverage by default. However, you can purchase additional insurance coverage for your international mailpieces.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) offers several options for insuring your international mailpieces:

  1. First Class Package International Service (FCPIS): This service includes insurance coverage up to $200 for packages weighing up to 4.4 pounds (2 kg). You can purchase additional insurance coverage up to $5,000.
  2. Priority Mail International: This service includes insurance coverage up to $100 for packages weighing up to 70 pounds (32 kg). You can purchase additional insurance coverage up to $5,000.
  3. Global Express Guaranteed (GXG): This service includes insurance coverage up to $100 for packages weighing up to 70 pounds (32 kg). You can purchase additional insurance coverage up to $5,000.

To purchase insurance for your international mailpiece, you'll need to:

  1. Use the correct postage for the weight and size of your package.
  2. Complete a customs form (PS Form 2976) and attach it to the outside of the package.
  3. Pay the additional insurance fee, which varies depending on the value of the package and the level of coverage you choose.

You can purchase insurance coverage online, at a post office, or through a USPS-approved shipping carrier. Keep in mind that insurance coverage may not be available for all countries or for certain types of items.

It's always a good idea to check with the USPS or a shipping carrier for the most up-to-date information on insurance coverage and rates for your specific mailpiece.
