Does proton mail support delivery and read receipts

ProtonMail, a popular end-to-end encrypted email service, does not support delivery receipts or read receipts by default. This is because ProtonMail prioritizes user privacy and security, and these types of receipts can potentially compromise the confidentiality of the communication.

However, ProtonMail does offer some alternatives to traditional delivery and read receipts:

  1. Delivery notifications: ProtonMail allows you to receive notifications when an email is delivered to the recipient's mailbox. This is done through a separate notification system, which is not tied to the email itself. To enable delivery notifications, go to Settings > Notifications > Email notifications.
  2. Read confirmation: ProtonMail offers a feature called "Read confirmation" (also known as "Read receipts" or "Read notifications"). This feature allows the sender to receive a notification when the recipient opens the email, but it does not reveal the content of the email. To enable read confirmation, go to Settings > Security > Read confirmation.

It's important to note that even with these alternatives, ProtonMail still prioritizes user privacy and security. For example, the read confirmation feature does not provide any information about the content of the email, and the delivery notifications are not tied to the email itself.

If you need more advanced features, such as customizable delivery and read receipts, you may want to consider using a third-party email client or service that offers these features. However, keep in mind that these services may compromise your privacy and security, so it's essential to carefully evaluate their policies and features before using them.
