Does windows live mail use imap

Windows Live Mail (WLM) does support IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) to some extent, but it's not the default protocol used by WLM. Here's what you need to know:

  1. POP3 is the default: Windows Live Mail uses POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3) as its default protocol to retrieve email from your email provider. POP3 downloads email from the server to your local machine, deleting it from the server in the process.
  2. IMAP support: WLM does support IMAP, but it's not enabled by default. You need to configure IMAP settings manually. To do this, go to "Accounts" > "Properties" > "More Settings" > "Advanced" and select "IMAP" as the protocol.
  3. Limited IMAP support: While WLM supports IMAP, it's not a full-fledged IMAP client. It only supports a subset of IMAP features, such as retrieving email, deleting email, and creating folders. It doesn't support more advanced IMAP features like searching, sorting, or using IMAP folders.
  4. Compatibility issues: Some email providers may not work well with WLM's IMAP implementation, or may not support it at all. If you encounter issues, you may need to use a different email client or switch to POP3.

In summary, while Windows Live Mail does support IMAP, it's not the default protocol and has limited IMAP features. If you need more advanced IMAP functionality, you may want to consider using a different email client.
