First mail

The first email!

The first email was sent in 1971 by Ray Tomlinson, a computer programmer and engineer. He was working on a project to connect different computer systems and needed a way to send messages between them. He chose the @ symbol to separate the user name from the host name, and the email was born!

The first email was sent over the ARPANET network, a precursor to the modern-day internet. The message was simple: "QWERTYUIOP" (a test message to check if the system was working).

Here's a recreation of the first email:

From: [SRI-10@SRI-10] To: [SRI-10@SRI-10] Subject: TEST MESSAGE

QWERTYUIOP

Ray Tomlinson's innovation revolutionized communication, making it possible for people to send messages electronically. Today, email is an essential part of our daily lives, used by billions of people around the world.
