Folders in gmail nesting
The joys of organizing your Gmail inbox!
Gmail allows you to create folders (also known as labels) to categorize and nest your emails. Here's how to do it:
Creating a folder (label)
- Log in to your Gmail account.
- Click on the gear icon () in the upper right corner of the page.
- Select "See all settings" from the dropdown menu.
- Go to the "Labels" tab.
- Click on the "New label" button.
- Enter a name for your label (folder) and click "Create".
Nesting folders
To nest folders, you can create a sub-label under an existing label. Here's how:
- Go to the "Labels" tab in your Gmail settings.
- Click on the label you want to nest under.
- Click on the "New label" button.
- Enter a name for your sub-label and click "Create".
- The new sub-label will be nested under the parent label.
Example:
Let's say you have a label called "Work" and you want to create a sub-label called "Projects" under it. Here's how it would look:
- Work
- Projects
Using nested folders
To use your nested folders, you can apply them to your emails using the following methods:
- Drag and drop: Drag an email into the folder you want to apply the label to.
- Right-click: Right-click on an email and select "Apply label" > "Work" > "Projects".
- Keyboard shortcut: Press the "l" key and start typing the name of the label you want to apply.
Tips and tricks
- You can have multiple levels of nesting, but it's recommended to keep it to 2-3 levels to avoid clutter.
- You can also use the "Move to" feature to move emails to a nested folder.
- If you want to apply multiple labels to an email, separate them with commas (e.g., "Work, Projects, Urgent").
By using nested folders in Gmail, you can keep your inbox organized and make it easier to find specific emails. Happy organizing!
