To set up email alerts from FreeNAS to Gmail, you'll need to follow these steps:
Step 1: Enable IMAP in your Gmail account
- Log in to your Gmail account.
- Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select "See all settings."
- Go to the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab.
- Enable IMAP and save the changes.
Step 2: Configure FreeNAS to send email alerts
- Log in to your FreeNAS web interface.
- Go to "Settings" > "Notifications" > "Email".
- Select "Gmail" as the email provider.
- Enter your Gmail address and password.
- Set the "From" address to your Gmail address.
- Choose the email template you want to use for the alerts.
- Set the "SMTP Server" to "imap.gmail.com" and the "SMTP Port" to "993".
- Set the "Authentication" to "Username and Password".
- Save the changes.
Step 3: Configure the email alert triggers
- Go to "Settings" > "Notifications" > "Alerts".
- Click on the "Add Alert" button.
- Choose the event you want to trigger the alert (e.g., disk usage, disk errors, etc.).
- Set the alert threshold (e.g., 80% disk usage).
- Select the email template you created earlier.
- Save the changes.
Step 4: Test the email alerts
- Trigger the alert event (e.g., simulate a disk error).
- Check your Gmail account to see if you receive the email alert.
Tips:
- Make sure to allow less secure apps to access your Gmail account. You can do this by going to your Google Account settings > Security > Less secure app access.
- If you're using 2-factor authentication (2FA) with your Gmail account, you may need to generate an App Password and use that instead of your regular password.
- You can customize the email templates to include more information about the alert event.
