Gmail archive old emails

The joys of email management!

Archiving old emails in Gmail can help you declutter your inbox and free up storage space. Here's how to do it:

Method 1: Using the "Archive" button

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Select the emails you want to archive by checking the boxes next to them.
  3. Click on the "More" menu at the top of the page and select "Archive" from the dropdown menu.
  4. Alternatively, you can also use the keyboard shortcut "e" to archive a selected email.

Method 2: Using the "Bulk actions" feature

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Select the emails you want to archive by checking the boxes next to them.
  3. Click on the "Bulk actions" dropdown menu at the top of the page.
  4. Select "Archive" from the dropdown menu.

Method 3: Using filters

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select "See all settings."
  3. Go to the "Filters and Blocked Addresses" tab.
  4. Click on "Create a new filter."
  5. Enter the criteria for the emails you want to archive (e.g., "older than 1 year").
  6. Select "Apply the label" and choose "Archive" from the dropdown menu.
  7. Click "Create filter."

Method 4: Using the "Search" function

  1. Log in to your Gmail account.
  2. Use the search bar at the top of the page to search for emails older than a certain date or with a specific label.
  3. Use the following search operators to find old emails:
    • older_than: followed by a number (e.g., older_than:1y for emails older than 1 year)
    • before: followed by a date (e.g., before:2020/01/01 for emails before January 1, 2020)
  4. Select the emails you want to archive and click on the "Archive" button.

Remember that archiving emails will move them out of your inbox and into the "All Mail" label. If you want to permanently delete emails, you can use the "Trash" feature instead.
