Gmail cancel sent mail

The frustration of accidentally sending an email and wanting to cancel it!

Unfortunately, Gmail doesn't have a built-in feature to cancel sent emails. Once you've sent an email, it's gone and can't be retrieved or recalled. However, there are a few workarounds to help you recover from this situation:

  1. Undo Send: Gmail has a feature called "Undo Send" that allows you to retract an email within a short period after sending it. To enable this feature, follow these steps:
    • Go to your Gmail settings (gear icon) > See all settings.
    • Scroll down to the "General" tab.
    • Look for the "Undo Send" option and toggle it on.
    • Set the "Undo Send" window to a time that works for you (e.g., 5, 10, or 30 seconds).
    • Save your changes.
    • Once you've sent an email, you'll have the option to "Undo" it within the set time frame.
  2. Report the email as spam: If you've sent an email to someone by mistake, you can report it as spam to help prevent future unwanted emails. To do this:
    • Go to the sent email.
    • Click the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the email.
    • Select "Report spam" from the dropdown menu.
  3. Send a follow-up email: If you've sent an email with incorrect information or want to correct a mistake, you can send a follow-up email to the recipient. This way, you can clarify or correct the information without having to recall the original email.
  4. Use a third-party add-on: There are several third-party add-ons available that claim to allow you to recall sent emails. However, these add-ons may not always work as intended and may have limitations. Some popular options include:
    • Boomerang: A browser extension that allows you to recall sent emails.
    • Sanebox: A email management tool that offers a "Recall" feature.
    • Email Recall: A Chrome extension that claims to recall sent emails.

Remember that these workarounds may not always be effective, and it's essential to double-check your emails before sending them to avoid mistakes.
