Gmail drive storage
Gmail and Google Drive are two separate services offered by Google, but they are integrated in a way that allows you to use your Gmail storage to store files in Google Drive.
Here's how it works:
- Gmail Storage: Gmail provides a certain amount of free storage space, which is used to store your emails, attachments, and other data. The free storage space varies depending on your Gmail account type:
- Basic: 15 GB
- Google Workspace (formerly G Suite): 30 GB (or more, depending on your plan)
- Google Drive Storage: Google Drive provides a separate storage space for files, which is not directly tied to your Gmail storage. The free storage space for Google Drive is:
- 15 GB (shared with Gmail and Google Photos)
- Shared Storage: When you upload files to Google Drive, they are stored in your Google Drive storage space. However, if you upload files from Gmail (e.g., attachments), they are stored in your Gmail storage space, not your Google Drive storage space.
Here are some key points to keep in mind:
- Gmail attachments: When you attach files to an email, they are stored in your Gmail storage space, not your Google Drive storage space.
- Google Drive files: When you upload files to Google Drive, they are stored in your Google Drive storage space, not your Gmail storage space.
- Shared storage: If you upload files from Gmail to Google Drive, they will be stored in your Google Drive storage space, not your Gmail storage space.
- Storage limits: Your Gmail and Google Drive storage spaces are separate, and you can use up to 15 GB of storage space across both services.
To check your storage usage and available space, follow these steps:
- Sign in to your Google account.
- Go to the Google Account dashboard.
- Click on "Data & personalization" and then "Storage".
- You'll see a breakdown of your storage usage across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos.
Remember to regularly clean up your email inbox and Google Drive to free up storage space and avoid running out of room.
