Google april fools gmail

A classic!

On April 1, 2005, Google played a legendary April Fools' prank on the world by announcing Gmail, a new email service that offered 1 GB of free storage space. At the time, most email services offered a paltry 2-4 MB of storage space, so this was a game-changer.

The prank was so convincing that many people believed it was a real announcement, and the news spread like wildfire across the internet. It wasn't until later that day that Google revealed it was all just a joke.

The prank was so successful that it helped establish Gmail as a major player in the email market, and the service has since become one of the most popular email providers in the world.

Here's the original April 1, 2005, announcement:

"Gmail: 1 GB of free storage space

We're excited to announce Gmail, a new email service that offers 1 GB of free storage space. That's right, 1 GB! No more worrying about running out of space or having to delete messages to make room for new ones.

With Gmail, you'll be able to store all your emails, including attachments, without worrying about running out of space. And with our advanced search capabilities, you'll be able to find any message in seconds.

Gmail is currently available in beta, and we're inviting a limited number of users to try it out. If you're interested in being one of the first to try Gmail, please sign up below.

Note: Gmail is a joke. It's not a real email service. We're just messing with you. But we hope you enjoyed the joke!"
