Has the irs received my mailed tax return

The eternal question!

Unfortunately, the IRS doesn't provide real-time updates on the status of mailed tax returns. However, there are a few ways to check on the status of your return:

  1. Where's My Refund?: The IRS offers a tool called "Where's My Refund?" (WMR) that allows you to track the status of your refund. You can access WMR on the IRS website (irs.gov) by clicking on the "Refunds" tab and following the prompts. You'll need your Social Security number, filing status, and exact refund amount to use this tool.
  2. IRS2Go App: The IRS2Go app (available for iOS and Android devices) allows you to check the status of your refund, as well as other tax-related information.
  3. Contact the IRS: If you're unable to check the status of your return online, you can contact the IRS by phone or mail:
    • Phone: Call the IRS Refund Hotline at 1-800-829-1040 (Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time).
    • Mail: Write to the IRS at the address listed on the IRS website (irs.gov) under "Contact Us."
  4. Check your bank account: If you've opted for direct deposit, you can check your bank account to see if the refund has been deposited.
  5. Wait it out: If you've mailed your return and haven't received a confirmation or refund, it's possible that the IRS is still processing your return. The IRS typically takes 6-8 weeks to process mailed returns.

Remember to keep an eye on your mailbox and bank account for any updates or notifications from the IRS.
