Herkimer boces mail2000

A blast from the past!

Herkimer BOCES Mail2000 was a pioneering effort in the field of educational technology. BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) is a regional organization that provides shared services and resources to schools in a specific geographic area.

In the late 1990s, Herkimer BOCES developed the Mail2000 system, which was a web-based email and collaboration platform designed specifically for K-12 students and teachers. The system was launched in 1999 and was one of the first of its kind in the country.

Mail2000 allowed students and teachers to communicate with each other electronically, share files and resources, and collaborate on projects. The system was designed to be user-friendly and accessible, even for students who may not have had prior experience with computers or the internet.

The Mail2000 system was widely adopted by schools in the Herkimer BOCES region, and it played an important role in promoting digital literacy and online collaboration among students and teachers. While the system is no longer in use today, it was an important milestone in the development of educational technology and paved the way for the widespread adoption of digital tools in K-12 education.
